Locksmiths Brisbane
Brisbane Moreton Bay was recorded to of been explored by Mathew Flinders in 1799 from his expedition from Port Jackson the area was occupied by the Jagera and Turrbal Aboriginal Tribes. The Town was Conceived as a British penal settlement with convicts sent from Sydney.
On 12 September 1824 the Amity arrived at Redcliffe. Among the 54 people on board were Oxley, Lieutenant Henry Miller of the 40th Regiment of Foot, the first commandant of the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement, botanist Allan Cunningham, guards and about 30 convicts.
Independent government came late to the region. Brisbane’s very small municipal council formed in September 1859. The commercial hub was South Brisbane, which started as South Ward in the early Brisbane Municipal Council (made up of only four wards), and the area did not become its own township until 1887 when the former South Ward amalgamated with the division of Woolloongabba.
